"A Preston Hollow Shire" at Kips Bay Dallas Showhouse!
From Another Realm
"I was thrilled to be returning as a designer to the 2023 Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas. Our space really took its direction from the beginning of the design process. When the black color for the house was selected, we leaned into a rather organic, sweeping, and moody design that felt very evocative of spaces created in classic literature. Thus, 'A Preston Hollow Shire' was born! Focal elements in the space, such as the limestone trough and moon gate, grab your immediate attention and create a sense of space, drawing you further outside to explore the expansive garden."
- Dan Houchard, Co-Owner, from the Ground Up
Designed to transport visitors to another realm, for this year's Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse in Dallas, Dan Houchard, From the Ground Up's co-owner and principal designer, visualized a faraway wooded garden set among mature trees, bringing to life a series of lush, magical spaces designed for living outside.
Beginning with a terrace accented by custom iron railing and majestic furniture, visitors move through spaces underscored by a soft organic palette, sumptuous plantings, and a nineteenth-century Belgian limestone water feature as they meander toward a stunning dining pergola. Highlighted by a dazzling custom chandelier and anchored by a Brown Jordan kitchen, the pergola is a gracious dining area destined for creating a lifetime of family memories. Just beyond, an eye-catching moon gate leads to an area dubbed "the Woodland Garden," which provides what can only be described as an elegant living room set among the trees with furnishings by David Sutherland. More than anything, Houchard's vision of a Dallas Shire serves as a multidimensional ode to classic garden design and its role as a stage for life's most meaningful moments.
